About us

Subtech is a project started back in 1996 by Dwight the "Derelict" Collin. Working out of a small apt studio, Dwight began merging jungle loops & strange samples with his formidable keyboard talents. The name Subtech comes from the lowtech methods involved in creating his music. Turntables, broken headphones, samplers that hold only 5 secs of audio, boomboxes with only one working speaker, and anything else that could be obtained were used to record.

From this beginning, a cadre of talented vocalists, MCs, musicians and producers would emerge to refine the music, and take the subtech sound to the next level.

The Result was a sound best described by Interview magzine as "an urban, grittier verson of Beck".
